Volunteer
If you have the time and desire to work with young people, there's an
opportunity that will fit you within MPS!
Non-paid volunteers perform a variety of duties, such as assisting
students with their reading and math skills or lending a hand with
homework. MPS is also in need of
coaches for youth sports, and assistance with Special Olympics
activities.
How do I get started?
Fill
out an online request form or call a school near you, and asking
how you can help
as a volunteer. You may also call representatives of any of the
programs that serve MPS, and find out more.
You will be asked to fill out an application. A background check will
be done

After School
Programs - Community Learning Centers
Volunteer tutors are needed to help students in Grades 1 through 12 to
improve their reading and math skills. Tutoring takes place after
school at 43 Community Learning Centers located in MPS schools
throughout the City of Milwaukee.
This is a program of Milwaukee Recreation and Community Services, a
division of MPS. You will be required to fill out an MPS Application to
volunteer form.

Nature Center Helpers

Hawthorn Glen
Hawthorn Glen is a 23-acre nature center located at N. 60th Street and
W. State Street. It is programmed and maintained by MPS. Volunteers are
needed to help remove aggressive non-native weeds and trees that crowd
out native wildflowers, ferns and other plants. Great opportunity for
families, scout troops or civic organizations. On-site training will be
provided.

Adaptive Sports
Volunteers are needed for Milwaukee Recreation evening wheelchair
adaptive sports programs held Monday through Thursday from 6:00 - 8:00
p.m. Programs are held at various locations throughout Milwaukee,
primarily at MPS school buildings.
This is a program of Milwaukee Recreation and Community Services, a
division of MPS. You will be required to fill out an MPS Application to
volunteer form.

Special Olympics
Team Milwaukee Special Olympics is a year-round community based sports
program within the City of Milwaukee. Volunteers will assist coaches in
teaching athletes with cognitive disabilities the fundamentals of
sports. The sports include bowling, volleyball, basketball, gymnastics,
aquatics, tennis, and other activities.
This is a program of Milwaukee Recreation and Community Services, a
division of MPS. You will be required to fill out an MPS Application to
volunteer form. You may also be required to fill out a Special Olympics
volunteer form.

Youth Sports
Coaches and officials are needed for elementary and middle school
sports programs. Practices are normally held held after school with
games played on Saturdays. Programs are held at various locations
throughout the City of Milwaukee, primarily at MPS school buildings and
ball fields. Sports include basketball, flag football, soccer, T-ball,
softball and volleyball.
